Traditional Radio Must Evolve to Stay Relevant, Says Expert

Femi Obong Daniel, the General Manager of Cool FM, Wazobia FM, and Nigeria Info, delivered a keynote address at the 10th anniversary celebration of LASU Radio 95.7 FM, held at the Lagos State University. He cautioned traditional radio stations about the risks of becoming irrelevant if they fail to adapt to changing audience habits in the digital era.

Daniel stated that the biggest threat to the radio industry is not social media but uninspired content. He emphasized that modern radio must evolve beyond traditional terrestrial broadcasting to remain relevant on digital platforms.

He described campus radio stations as critical training grounds for the next generation of journalists and content creators. Daniel urged students to acquire skills in podcasting and digital storytelling, noting that the future media landscape rewards versatility and innovation.

The event attracted notable figures, including Lagos State University Vice Chancellor Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello, and featured discussions on the impact of emerging technologies in broadcasting.
