Melaye Warns FG Against Targeting Atiku Over Allegations

On September 11, 2026, former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye issued a warning to the Federal Government regarding any attempts to invite, arrest, or interrogate Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This warning follows a petition submitted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by former House of Representatives member Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, which seeks to reopen investigations into alleged financial crimes involving Atiku from his tenure as Vice-President under Olusegun Obasanjo.

The petition, filed through lawyer Hannibal Uwaifo, references earlier investigations from 2005-2006 and includes allegations of corruption, money laundering, and abuse of office. Melaye stated that ADC and its supporters would mobilize against any government actions targeting Atiku, asserting that the population far exceeds those in government.

Atiku has denied any wrongdoing, claiming the allegations are politically motivated and have been previously investigated without conviction. The EFCC has yet to announce any new investigation in response to the petition.
