Sheikh Jingir Denies Hate Speech Against Christians

Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, an Islamic cleric and leader of JIBWIS, addressed accusations of harboring hatred towards Christians, labeling them as “mere lies.” Speaking on Sunday in Jos, Plateau State, during a symposium on political participation and social justice, he clarified that his recent comments were taken out of context. Jingir faced criticism for remarks made at a mass wedding in Kano, where he was accused of deepening religious divisions.

He asserted that he does not dislike Christians and emphasized that Islamic leadership is based on justice and fairness, urging Muslims to avoid discrimination against other faiths. Jingir called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and state governors to lead with fairness, regardless of citizens' ethnic or religious affiliations.

He also defended the right of Nigerians to make independent political choices and stressed the importance of peace and unity for national development. His comments followed his support for the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket and encouragement for Muslims to engage politically.
