New Veterinary Doctors Inducted at Michael Okpara University

During the 12th induction ceremony for new veterinary doctors at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Vice Chancellor Prof. Ursula Ngozi Akanwa emphasized the importance of ethical values in veterinary practice to ensure food safety and public health.

The event, held in collaboration with the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), saw 48 graduates of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program receive their licenses to practice. Prof.

Akanwa, represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics Prof. Nneoma Elechi Obasi, stated that the ceremony marks a significant transition for the graduates into their professional roles, which include safeguarding animal health and food systems.

She acknowledged the VCN's accreditation of the university's veterinary program and highlighted the partnership with the industry to support practical training for students. Awards were also presented, with Dr.

Chimezi Amarachi Bless recognized as the overall best graduate and Dr. Aniorji Sandra Chinonso receiving the Farm Alert Award.
