Abia Varsity Inducts New Veterinary Doctors, Emphasizes Health

During the 12th induction ceremony for new veterinary doctors at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Prof. Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, the Chancellor, emphasized the importance of food safety and public health.

She charged the graduates to uphold ethical values in their profession and to ensure the safety of food systems and animal health. The event, which took place on a Wednesday, was organized in collaboration with the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN).

Prof. Nneoma Elechi Obasi, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), represented the Vice Chancellor at the ceremony.

Prof. Akanwa noted that the ceremony was not merely a formality but a significant transition for the graduates into their professional roles.

A total of 48 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) graduates were inducted, with Dr. Chimezi Amarachi Bless recognized as the overall best graduate.

Dr. Aniorji Sandra Chinonso received the Farm Alert Award.

The VCN, led by Prof. Mathew Adamu, granted full accreditation to the university's veterinary program.
