MMIA Secretariat Closure Drains Nigeria's Revenue, Agents Warn

The ongoing closure of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) secretariat is reportedly costing Nigeria substantial revenue, as stated by Femi Anifowos, the South West Zonal Coordinator of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA). During a press conference at the association's headquarters in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos, Anifowos explained that the closure has created internal tensions within the association and disrupted operations, leading to significant revenue losses for the government.

He emphasized that customs brokers are unable to settle at the airport due to the secretariat's closure. Anifowos insisted that the leadership crisis affecting the airport chapter had already been resolved, but police have refused to reopen the office, undermining the resolution and preventing members from organizing their activities properly.

He called for urgent intervention from the Inspector General of Police to restore order, as the situation is critically affecting trade facilitation at the airport. The Nigerian Police Force's public relations officer, Mohammed Adeola, declined to comment on the case.
