Mob Burns Doctor's SUV Over False Kidnapping Alarm in Oyo

On Monday at approximately 2:30 PM, a mob in the 2nd Powerline area of Ologuneru, Ibadan, set ablaze the SUV of Dr. Afolabi, a US-based medical doctor, following a false kidnapping alarm.

The Oyo State Police Command, through DSP Ayanlad Olayinka, reported that the incident began when Dr. Afolabi attempted to gain access to a polytechnic gate and was stopped by security personnel who conducted a routine vehicle inspection.

During this inspection, two young girls, identified as Deborah (15) and Rebecca (12), were seen in a compromising situation, which raised suspicions. The girls were legally in the vehicle, as Mr.

Idowu Abimbola (56), who was driving, intended to deliver them to their mother for household assistance. The situation escalated when the girls could not communicate effectively in the local language, leading to a mob chase.

Police intervened, rescuing the victims, but not before the mob inflicted severe injuries on Mr. Abimbola.

The police condemned the mob action and warned against spreading false information that could threaten public peace.
