Mohammed Abacha Loses PDP Governorship Ticket in Kano

Mohammed Abacha, the eldest son of the late General Sani Abacha, lost his bid to secure the People's Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket for Kano State in the 2027 elections. In the party primaries, held under the supervision of the PDP's governorship primary election committee led by Umar Danjani Hadejia, Muhammad Bello Dalhatu emerged as the winner with 2,233 votes, while Abacha finished as the runner-up with 749 votes.

The election was conducted in accordance with the party's constitution and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines, ensuring a peaceful and hitch-free process. This loss follows Abacha's previous attempt to secure the party's ticket in 2023, where he lost to Sadiq Aminu Wali and subsequently engaged in legal battles over the party's factional disputes.
