Guinea Seeks Review of 1976 AFCON Title After CAF Ruling

Guinea is requesting a review of the 1976 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) overturned the result of the 2025 AFCON due to Senegal's walkout during a match. In the 1976 tournament, Morocco and Guinea played in a round-robin format where Morocco needed a draw, while Guinea required a victory to win the title.

Guinea led the match until the 33rd minute when Moroccan player Chrif Souleyman briefly walked off in protest of a referee's decision but returned to continue the match. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, allowing Morocco to top the group with five points and win the title, while Guinea finished second.

Guinea argues that the incident should be reassessed under the principles applied to the 2025 rule, requesting the return of the 1976 AFCON trophy due to retroactive sanctions applied to teams that left the pitch during play. CAF has yet to respond to Guinea's request.
