Bridge Collapse Disrupts Traffic in Kwara State

On Thursday, a bridge known as Moro Bridge in Asa Local Government Area, Kwara State, collapsed around 5 AM due to the weight of a heavy-duty truck, severely disrupting vehicular movement along the Ilorin-Igbeti Federal Highway. This incident has left motorists stranded and has been described as a major setback for commercial activities, leading to increased transport costs.

Kafayat, a businesswoman, expressed concerns about the negative impact on economic activities. The Kwara State Government, through the Ministry of Works, represented by Engr.

Abdulquawii Olododo, announced immediate traffic diversions and the deployment of engineers to commence emergency repairs and alternative routes to ease congestion. The government has received assurances from federal authorities regarding the ongoing construction of a new Moro Bridge, located a few meters away from the collapsed structure.

The old bridge has been a critical link between Kwara and Oyo states and has undergone repeated rehabilitation due to structural issues.
