Education Ministry Summons FUTO VC Over Aide Appointments

The Federal Ministry of Education has summoned Prof. Ikechukwu Dozi, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), regarding the alleged irregular appointment of 24 aides within his office.

A memorandum dated June 25, 2026, signed by Kareem O.L., the Acting Director of University Education, instructed the Vice Chancellor to reverse these appointments immediately. The memorandum, which references a prior document dated June 22, 2026, indicates that the Minister of Education observed that the appointments were inconsistent with established regulations and due process governing appointments within the federal university system.

The Vice Chancellor is required to provide documentary evidence confirming the withdrawal of these appointments without delay. Additionally, the Minister has invited him to discuss related issues on June 29, 2026.

This situation has been communicated to the National Universities Commission (NUC) as it reflects serious concerns that could have broader implications for university administration across Nigeria.
