Mozia Advocates Caution in Support of State Police

On Thursday, Ken Mozia, a senior advocate in Nigeria, expressed cautious support for the establishment of state police during a reunion of the Saint Patrick's College Old Boys Association (SPCOBA) held in Benin City. He noted that while the initiative holds promise for improving security, it must be managed properly to avoid political interference.

Mozia emphasized the importance of recruiting officers from within communities to better identify criminal elements and understand local dynamics, thereby strengthening the security architecture at the grassroots level. He raised concerns about the resurgence of violent crime, including suicide bombings, describing these trends as troubling indicators of evolving security threats.

Mozia specifically highlighted the dangers associated with road travel, advising Nigerians to exercise caution, especially on unfamiliar or isolated routes. He also pointed out the vulnerability of residential entry points to attacks, referencing several kidnapping incidents that have occurred when individuals arrive home.
