Musawa Lauds Popoola for Global Art Recognition

Hannatu Musawa, Nigeria's Minister of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, commended metal sculptor Dotun Popoola for elevating Nigeria's presence on the global stage during the formal opening of his eighth solo exhibit at Tikera Africa in Abuja. The exhibit, titled "Reclaiming Beauty," showcased large-scale sculptures made from repurposed materials, highlighting themes of sustainability and cultural significance.

Musawa noted that Popoola's work has attracted international attention, including from Spain, and emphasized the importance of transforming waste into art. She framed the exhibit within the broader government initiative to boost Nigeria's cultural economy and enhance the country's soft power under President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope agenda.

Bayo Omoboriowo, founder of Tikera Africa, described the exhibit as a natural fit for the site, which aims to create a sustainable creative ecosystem. Musawa encouraged local actors to learn from Popoola's example and support tourism and environmental cleanliness.
