Islamic Leaders Urge Unity Over Tinubu's Muslim Ticket

Islamic leaders have cautioned against anti-Christian rhetoric related to President Bola Tinubu's Muslim-Muslim ticket with Vice President Kashim Shettima, stating it could negatively impact Tinubu's electoral prospects. Sheikh Iskil Awwal, representing the Wakeelul Muslimeen of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta, emphasized the importance of prioritizing competence and national development over religious affiliations, especially during Nigeria's economic challenges.

He recalled his participation in a 2022 delegation to Sokoto State, which included traditional rulers and political figures like Chief Bisi Akande and Dimeji Bankole, to garner support for Tinubu. Awwal urged Muslim leaders to avoid incitement and promote unity, highlighting that Muslims are not the only demographic in Nigeria.

Sheikh Abdurrahman Ahmad, National Missioner of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, noted that while Sheikh Jingir's views reflect his opinion, they do not represent the entire Muslim community, advocating for a focus on governance effectiveness rather than religious identity.
