FOMWAN Conference in Umuahia Addresses Women's Challenges

The 2026 Annual National Conference of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) commenced in Umuahia, Abia State, with over 600 participants. The theme of the conference is “Faith, Resilience and Responsibility: Muslim Women Responding to Challenges.” Dr Sumaye Fadimatu Hamza, the 11th National Amirah of FOMWAN, addressed journalists, emphasizing the need for collective action to tackle issues such as insecurity, economic pressures, youth unemployment, and humanitarian crises in Nigeria.

She stated that faith inspires resilience and responsibility among Muslim women, urging them to contribute positively to their communities. The conference aims to foster dialogue and produce practical recommendations on various topics, including women's roles in peacebuilding, education, and climate change.

FOMWAN has been active for over four decades in areas like education, healthcare, and women's empowerment, advocating for increased investment in these sectors and stronger partnerships to support vulnerable populations.
