FOMWAN to Address Insecurity at 2026 Conference in Abia

The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) will commence its 2026 Annual National Conference on Friday in Umuahia, Abia State, with over 600 participants expected. The conference, themed “Faith, Resilience and Responsibility: Muslim Women Responding to Challenges,” will gather women leaders, scholars, professionals, and community stakeholders nationwide.

Dr Sumaye Fadimatu Hamza, the 11th National Amirah of FOMWAN, stated that the theme reflects Nigeria's current realities, including insecurity, economic pressures, and humanitarian crises. She emphasized the need for collective action and purposeful leadership among Muslim women, who are inspired by faith to respond to challenges with resilience and innovation.

The conference will facilitate discussions on various topics, including women's roles in peacebuilding and economic empowerment. FOMWAN has been active for over four decades in areas such as education, healthcare, and women's empowerment, and it advocates for increased investment in education, mental health support, and stronger partnerships to address the needs of vulnerable populations.
