Aisha Achimugu Accuses EFCC of Persecution and Intimidation

Aisha Achimugu, the founder of Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Limited, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of persecution, intimidation, and abuse of legal processes, claiming these actions have endangered her life and business. In a statement released on Wednesday, Achimugu asserted that she has not committed any crime and is being unfairly targeted by the EFCC, which has portrayed her as a criminal without any conviction.

She stated that the EFCC's actions have severely damaged her reputation, affected her business operations, and caused hardship for her family. The allegations follow a High Court ruling that ordered the final forfeiture of assets linked to her, including jewellery valued at over N4.6 billion and luxury vehicles worth over N4.2 billion, as well as cash.

Achimugu contends that the $13 million forfeited by the EFCC was from legitimate business transactions related to payments made to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission for petroleum prospecting licenses. She claims to have provided evidence of these transactions and accused the EFCC of ignoring this documentation while continuing to pursue allegations against her.
