Defence Minister Advocates Dignity in Petty Trading

On a recent occasion at Lungi Barracks in Abuja, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, spoke at a training and financial empowerment workshop aimed at widows and wives of Armed Forces personnel. The event, themed “Renewed Hope for Families of the Armed Forces of Nigeria Through Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development,” was organized by the Ministry of Defence in collaboration with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).

Musa urged Nigerians to recognize the dignity in petty trading, recalling how his mother’s business selling akamu and akara significantly impacted his life. He expressed surprise at the criticism directed towards recent financial support from First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for petty traders, stating that such work should not be looked down upon.

Musa encouraged participants to embrace entrepreneurship as a means of economic empowerment and family support, reinforcing the Federal Government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of military families.
