N25bn Fund Allocated to Complete National Library in Abuja

The Federal Government has pooled about N25bn from gifts received by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu during her birthday celebration and funds from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to revive the abandoned National Library of Nigeria headquarters complex in Abuja. Minister of Education Dr Tunji Alausa announced this following the Federal Executive Council’s approval to augment the existing contract for the project's completion.

The National Library project began on April 29, 2006, but was abandoned in October 2008. President Bola Tinubu's intervention has provided new momentum for the project, with a directive to explore funding sources, including TETFund.

Alausa noted that the First Lady's birthday gifts generated about N25bn, which will be used for the library's completion. He expressed optimism that construction would resume in the coming months, emphasizing the project's significance for education and national heritage.
