FG to Upgrade National Library into World-Class Facility

The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to transform the National Library of Nigeria into a world-class facility modeled after the National Library of Qatar. This announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, during a meeting in Abuja with contractors, consultants, and officials from the National Library of Nigeria.

Alausa directed stakeholders to adhere to delivery timelines and maintain high-quality standards. The initiative aims to not only complete the long-abandoned project, which began in 1981 and was initiated in 2006, but also to create a modern institution that supports learning, research, and human capital development.

Influenced by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s visit to Qatar, the project will prioritize accessibility for children, persons with disabilities, and other groups. Alausa warned contractors about accountability and penalties for failing to meet guidelines.

The government is prepared to provide funding, having mobilized about N25 billion for the project, which has been divided into physical infrastructure and furnishing components for simultaneous progress.
