FG Approves Completion of Abandoned National Library Project

Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his intervention in reviving the National Library of Nigeria Headquarters Complex in Abuja, following the Federal Executive Council's approval to augment the existing contract for its completion and furnishing. The construction began on April 29, 2006, with an expected completion period of two years, but work halted in October 2008.

President Tinubu directed the mobilization of resources, including funding from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). Senator Oluremi Tinubu's initiative during her birthday celebration raised approximately ₦25 billion to support the project.

Dr. Alausa expressed optimism that construction would resume soon, marking a significant milestone for Nigeria's education sector. He emphasized the library's role as a national knowledge center for learning, research, and the preservation of Nigeria's intellectual heritage.
