N75,000 COVID Grant Rumor Discredited in Jigawa

A rumor circulated in Gumel, Jigawa State, claiming that residents holding COVID-19 vaccination cards would receive a N75,000 cash grant. This misinformation led to a large crowd gathering at the Gumel Local Government Secretariat on Tuesday, only to find no such payment was being made.

Residents, including Maryamu Salisu, expressed disappointment upon discovering the rumor was unfounded. Hussaini Gumel, the Special Adviser on New Media to the Chairman of the Gumel Local Government Council, stated that the claim was false and had no basis, as no government agency had announced such a grant.

He urged the public to disregard the rumor and verify information through official sources. Sagir Nayaya, from the Jigawa State Ministry of Health's Public Relations Office, confirmed that there was no record of any payment related to the vaccination cards and advised the public to seek verified information to avoid misinformation.
