NAF Enhances Counter-Terrorism with New Helicopters

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully completed the acceptance tests for three AW109 Trekker type B helicopters from Leonardo Helicopters, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing fleet modernization drive. The acceptance exercise took place from June 29 to July 3, 2026, and was conducted by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodam, along with a delegation from the Ministry of Defence.

This exercise allowed the Nigerian delegation to perform comprehensive inspections and flight evaluations to ensure the helicopters meet contractual specifications and operational requirements prior to delivery. The induction of these helicopters is expected to significantly enhance the NAF's capabilities in intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance missions, close air support, and combat search and rescue operations.

Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sundai Kelvin Anek stated that this addition is crucial for addressing Nigeria's evolving security challenges, including counter-terrorism and anti-banditry efforts. The NAF remains committed to building a highly motivated and mission-ready force to support national security objectives.
