NAF Receives Five New Helicopters for Anti-Terror Ops

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters to bolster its anti-terror operations as part of the Federal Government's initiative to modernize the country's airpower capabilities. The delivery includes three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters manufactured by Leonardo Helicopters of Italy and two H-125 helicopters from Airbus Helicopters.

According to a statement by NAF spokesman, Air Commodore Ehinmen Ejodame, the AW-109s are part of a larger acquisition of 10 helicopters, with the first three arriving in Lagos on September 15, 2026. The remaining seven are expected to be delivered before the end of 2026.

Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, emphasized that this acquisition marks a significant milestone in the NAF's modernization efforts, enhancing its capabilities in various operational areas, including intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and combat support. Aneke expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support in the modernization of the NAF, which is crucial for addressing Nigeria's evolving security challenges.

The new helicopters are currently undergoing post-delivery assembly and readiness processes.
