NAFDAC Warns Nigerians About Counterfeit Toothpaste

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted Nigerians about the circulation of a suspected counterfeit toothpaste, ORACIRE+ Toothpaste, which is being distributed under the guise of the registered ORACARE+ Toothpaste. This alert was prompted by a formal complaint and a market intelligence report indicating widespread distribution of the counterfeit product.

NAFDAC conducted market surveillance at Ojuwoye Market in Mushin, Lagos, where they found that the suspected counterfeit closely resembles the registered ORACARE+ Toothpaste in packaging and presentation, making it difficult for consumers to differentiate between the two. NAFDAC warned that counterfeit personal care products may not meet safety and quality standards, posing health risks to consumers.

The agency has initiated surveillance activities to assess the availability and distribution of the counterfeit toothpaste and instructed all zonal directors and state coordinators to investigate and take appropriate regulatory actions. Consumers and healthcare providers are urged to report any suspicions regarding the sale of the suspected counterfeit product.
