NAFDAC Launches Operation Against Banned Alcohol Products

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has commenced a nationwide enforcement operation to eliminate alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles smaller than 200 millilitres from circulation. This action aligns with the Federal Government’s ban on the production, importation, distribution, sale, and use of such alcoholic drinks.

NAFDAC announced that the operation is being conducted across all six geopolitical zones and follows the closure of non-compliant manufacturing facilities. The enforcement teams are actively working in markets, motor parks, retail outlets, bars, and other distribution channels to identify, seize, and remove the banned products.

NAFDAC has warned all stakeholders, including manufacturers and retailers, to surrender any remaining stock of these products, as continued possession or sale is a violation of the law that may lead to seizure and prosecution. The agency aims to address issues of underage drinking and substance abuse among youth and encourages public cooperation in reporting offenders.
