NAFDAC Discovers Illegal Sachet Alcohol Production

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), led by Director General Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, has revealed the continued illegal production of sachet alcohol and PET bottles below 200 millilitres, despite a federal ban. During a press briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, Adeyeye provided updates on a nationwide mop-up operation against these banned products.

Enforcement teams conducted raids in Lagos, Ogun, and other states, discovering that some manufacturers were still producing these prohibited items. Investigations indicated that these products were not old stock, with packaging materials dated as recently as July 23, 2026.

Adeyeye noted that some manufacturers relocated their operations to evade authorities and removed company signboards to conceal their identities. Additionally, some enforcement officers faced attacks during these operations, with one officer nearly stabbed.

Adeyeye condemned these actions and affirmed that the mop-up would continue until all banned products were removed, warning that violators would face shutdowns and sanctions.
