NAFDAC Destroys N8bn Worth of Fake Products in Nasarawa

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) destroyed fake, adulterated, expired, and banned products valued at over N8bn in Lafia, Nasarawa State. The destruction, conducted on a Thursday, was led by NAFDAC's Director-General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, represented by Deputy Director Joseph Edor.
Most confiscated items were banned alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and small containers under 200ml, aimed at preventing abuse among young people and schoolchildren. Adeyeye emphasized that the affordability and portability of these products contribute to their misuse, which can lead to severe health issues, including mental retardation and organ damage.
Other seized items included expired and counterfeit food products, medicines, and cosmetics. The operation was supported by law enforcement agencies, and NAFDAC warned traders against selling counterfeit products, promising enforcement actions against violators.
The Nasarawa State Coordinator, Dr Gyani Stephen, reiterated the focus on public health protection.
