Oshiomhole: Naira Redesign Helped Obi Defeat Tinubu

Adams Oshiomhole, the lawmaker representing Edo North Senatorial District, stated that the naira note redesign implemented by former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele played a significant role in Peter Obi's defeat of President Bola Tinubu in Lagos during the 2023 general elections. Oshiomhole made these remarks during an interview on TVC on Monday.

He argued that the public's frustration with Emefiele's policies, which he described as an attempt to "choke and suffocate the system," led to Obi's emergence as a viable candidate. Oshiomhole pointed out that the confusion created by the ruling party's actions made it difficult for anyone running on its platform to be electable.

He recalled how the sudden currency change by former President Muhammadu Buhari resulted in widespread cash access issues, causing citizens to queue for long hours to withdraw minimal amounts. This dissatisfaction, according to Oshiomhole, contributed to voters in Lagos opting for Obi over Tinubu.
