Nasarawa State Suspends Mining Operations in Udege

The Nasarawa State Government, led by Governor Abdullahi Sule, has ordered an immediate suspension of all mining operations in Udege, located in the Nasarawa Local Government Area. This decision was announced by the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Margar Elayo, during a press conference in Lafia.

The suspension is a response to security reports concerning mining activities within the affected area and aims to prioritize public interest. The directive requires mining companies to cease operations and withdraw all personnel, machinery, and equipment from the site without delay.

Additionally, the government will deploy security personnel to ensure compliance with this order and prevent unauthorized activities in the location. Elayo emphasized the administration's commitment to upholding mining laws and maintaining peace in host communities while encouraging stakeholders to cooperate with government efforts to restore the mining sector for the benefit of the state.
