Nasarawa Orders Evacuation of Lideal Mining Company

The Nasarawa State Government has mandated the immediate shutdown of Lideal Mining Company operating in the Udeg Development Area, citing alleged security concerns and repeated violations of agreements with the host community. Margaret Elayo, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, disclosed this during a press briefing in Lafia.

She accused the company of failing to comply with previous directives issued by the state government. The Federal High Court in Lafia upheld the state government's counter-motion against the company's legal challenge.

Elayo explained that extensive consultations with stakeholders and security agencies preceded this decision. The company is required to begin withdrawing its equipment, machinery, and personnel from the mine site immediately.

This action aligns with ongoing reforms introduced by Governor Abdullahi Sule aimed at repositioning the mining sector to deliver economic benefits to host communities. Elayo emphasized the need for strict compliance with state regulations and the importance of maintaining peace in the area.
