N’Assembly and FAAN Meet Over Airport Fire Incident

On Thursday, the Nigerian National Assembly's aviation committee held a closed-door meeting following an inspection of the damage caused by a fire at Terminal 1 of Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Monday. The lawmakers arrived at the airport at 3:07 PM to assess the affected areas before proceeding with the meeting, which was led by FAAN's Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku.

The fire destroyed critical infrastructure and equipment, notably impacting the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency. FAAN's board chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, expressed concern over the incident's implications for the aviation sector, particularly regarding safety.

He noted that while no lives were lost, the situation was unfortunate, and the firefighting efforts involved 150 personnel until the fire was completely extinguished. The ongoing investigation aims to ascertain the cause of the fire and its broader impact on aviation reforms under President Bola Tinubu's administration.
