National Assembly Urges Tinubu on Information Ministry Funding

On Tuesday, the National Assembly's joint committee on Information met to address the inadequate funding for the Federal Ministry of Information, urging President Bola Tinubu to intervene. The committee highlighted that the ministry's capital allocation for 2025 was N2.49 billion, with only N205 million released, which is insufficient for its operations.

Alhaji Moham Idri, the Minister of Information, presented a report indicating a serious trust deficit among the Nigerian public towards government officials. The committee, chaired by Hon.

Olushola Fatoba, noted that the proposed budget for 2026 merely rolled over figures from 2025, with 70% of the capital component unchanged. The lawmakers emphasized the need for adequate funding to enable the ministry to effectively counter misinformation and engage citizens, warning that underfunding could undermine democratic engagement.

They resolved to formally engage with the leadership of the National Assembly to facilitate a meeting with the President to address these budgetary concerns.
