National Intermediate Games Postponed to 2027

The inaugural National Intermediate Games, originally set to take place in Lagos from October 1 to 15, 2026, have been postponed to the first quarter of 2027. This decision was communicated by the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) to the National Sports Commission (NSC) after a thorough review of preparations by the Local Organising Committee, the NSC, and an independent Quality Control and Assurance Specialist.

The review followed a Joint Technical Meeting held from September 3 to 6, 2026, which assessed proposed facilities, sporting events, technical requirements, and operational areas. Kola Daniel, the Special Adviser on Media for the NSC, stated that while the Games could technically proceed, the remaining time was deemed insufficient to meet the desired standards.

The NSC emphasized that the postponement aims to protect the quality, credibility, and long-term success of the Games, which are expected to set a benchmark for future editions. Lagos State remains committed to staging the Games and will continue preparations in collaboration with the NSC and other stakeholders.
