NAU Nursing Students Protest 544% Tuition Fee Increase

Nursing students at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) in Nnewi staged a protest against a significant tuition fee increase of 544%, which raised the fees from ₦90,000 to ₦580,000. This increase was communicated in a memo issued on January 23 by O.

The breakdown of the new fees includes ₦250,000 for tuition, ₦50,000 for maintenance, ₦50,000 for library, ₦30,000 for medical, ₦60,000 for examination, ₦20,000 for portal, ₦30,000 for transport, ₦50,000 for accreditation, and ₦40,000 for maintenance fees.

In response to the hike, students protested in front of the hospital's main gate on Tuesday. As of the report, hospital management had not officially commented on the incident.

Chisom Sundai Chukwuelu, the Student Union President, acknowledged the students' concerns regarding the fee increment and stated that student leadership would engage with hospital management on the matter.
