Nigerian Navy Seizes 19 Bags of Cannabis in Anambra

The Naval Outpost, Onitsha Command of the Nigerian Navy, transferred 19 bags of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at their Onitsha Unit on Tuesday. The seizure occurred in Atani Community, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Commanding Officer Kabir Yusuf reported that the illicit substances were recovered during intelligence-led operations within the command’s operational area. Personnel from the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Amiyi, discovered the items during routine patrols.

A vehicle suspected of transporting Cannabis Sativa was chased, leading to the suspect abandoning the vehicle and fleeing. A follow-up operation revealed a warehouse allegedly used by the suspect for storing illicit substances, resulting in the recovery of the 19 bags.

The operation demonstrates the vigilance and professionalism of the Navy personnel in addressing drug-related issues. The Navy formally handed over the substances to the NDLEA for further investigation and requested updates on the investigation's outcome.
