Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya Elected NBA's First Female President

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya has made history by being elected as the first female president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in the elections conducted on July 18-19, 2026. She secured 12,317 votes, representing 47.18% of the total votes cast, while her closest competitor, Lateef Akangb, received 7,934 votes (30.39%).

The elections saw a total of 26,184 votes cast from 82,172 registered voters. Other notable positions filled during the elections included Oghenero Okoro as the first vice president with 11,024 votes and Afam Okeke as the general secretary with 8,478 votes.

The outgoing president, Mazi Afam Osigwe, noted that the elections faced significant challenges, including cyber attacks that nearly disrupted the electoral process. Despite these issues, the election was successfully conducted, and Badejo-Okusanya expressed her commitment to prioritizing the welfare of lawyers and improving working conditions within the association.
