NBA Investigates Asaba Lawyer for Alleged Misconduct

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has commenced an investigation into Asaba-based lawyer Chukwu Mmorwah over serious allegations of impersonation and breach of trust. The inquiry was initiated following a formal petition submitted by Lagos-based architect Anthony Chizea on March 12, 2026.

Chizea's counsel, Sanni Murtala, outlined accusations of professional misconduct against Mmorwah, which include claims of impersonation and actions that adversely affected the petitioner's family property following the death of Ogbueshi Franci Chizea. The allegations suggest that Mmorwah engaged in false representation and unlawful dealings concerning the property, which has been in dispute since 1971.

The NBA's South-South Zonal Ethical Disciplinary Committee is handling the case, with a 14-day response period for Mmorwah to address the allegations. Should the investigation reveal criminal conduct, Mmorwah may face sanctions ranging from suspension to disbarment, reflecting growing concerns about ethics within the legal profession.
