EFCC Arrests Fake Lawyer with Forged NBA Seal in Lagos

On April 20, 2023, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested John Anoruo, a 55-year-old suspected fake lawyer, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos. Anoruo was alleged to possess a forged seal of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

The investigation revealed that he submitted a petition on behalf of a client against Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited, with a court date set for September 22, 2025, and a letter of withdrawal dated March 5, 2026. Anoruo confessed to obtaining the forged NBA seal from a business center in Lagos.

Although he obtained a law degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2018, he admitted to not attending the Nigerian Law School. The EFCC plans to charge him in court upon the conclusion of their investigation.
