NBA Urges Security Reforms Amid Plateau State Violence

The four branches of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Plateau State condemned the increasing violence in the state during a joint press conference in Jos. They described the attacks in Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Bokkos Local Government Areas as a serious failure of the state's duty to protect its citizens.

The NBA noted that these attacks occurred even during curfews, resulting in the deaths of residents and vigilantes. They called for constitutional, security, and judicial reforms, including the creation of state police and amendments to grant governors more control over security.

The NBA commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support of state police and urged the Federal Government to enhance security measures, including better welfare for security personnel and improved border surveillance. They also called for local authorities and communities to collaborate with security agencies and emphasized the need for timely responses to attacks and expedited trials for terrorism-related offenses.
