NBA Calls for Urgent Action on Plateau State Violence

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has demanded immediate and coordinated action from both the Federal Government and the Plateau State Government to address the ongoing violence affecting communities in Plateau State. The NBA condemned recent attacks in Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Bokkos Local Government Areas, highlighting the killing of community vigilantes in Kikyau village during curfew hours.

The association expressed concern over the persistent loss of lives and property, which it stated undermines public confidence in government. The NBA emphasized that the protection of lives and property is the government's fundamental responsibility, referencing Section 33 of the 1999 Constitution.

It called for an executive bill to allow state governors greater control over security operations and urged the Federal Government to enhance the capabilities of the Armed Forces and paramilitary agencies. The NBA also recommended stronger border surveillance and the establishment of a military formation around the Pai River Game Reserve to combat criminal activities in the region.
