According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Nigeria achieved a trade surplus of N12.60 trillion in the second quarter of 2026, as exports significantly outpaced imports. Total imports were N14.42 trillion, a 12.55% decrease from N16.49 trillion in Q2 2025. China was the leading supplier of imports, providing goods worth N5.92 trillion.
Agricultural exports fell to N802.99 billion, while raw material exports surged 181.24% to N2.31 trillion. Dr. Kingsley Udeh, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, emphasized the need for local processing of raw materials before export during a conference organized by the RMRDC.
