NCA Chairman Supports Sultan's Call Against Corruption in Pilgrimage

Rev. John Joseph Hayab, the Chairman of the Northern Christians Association (NCA), has expressed support for Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III's stance against the use of public or stolen funds to finance religious pilgrimages. Hayab stated that using corrupt proceeds for pilgrimage undermines the spiritual significance of the journey.

He emphasized that politicians engaging in corruption cannot justify their actions by labeling the pilgrimage as a spiritual privilege. Hayab also endorsed the Sultan's call for Nigerians to vote out politicians who fail to deliver good governance, rather than resorting to curses or insults.

He highlighted the importance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ensuring that the people's will is respected in elections, arguing that accountability from politicians would improve if they knew they could be removed from office for poor performance. Hayab rejected the notion that most religious leaders support corrupt politicians, asserting that many oppose government spending on pilgrimages when basic public services remain inadequate.
