NCAA fines RwandAir N15m over baggage complaint issue

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has imposed a fine of N15 million on RwandAir due to the airline's failure to address a passenger's baggage complaint within the stipulated timeframe as mandated by consumer protection regulations. Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, confirmed the sanction, emphasizing the importance of compliance with consumer protection provisions that safeguard passenger rights.

In addition to the monetary fine, the NCAA has ordered RwandAir to replace the damaged baggage and provide US$170 as first-need compensation, in accordance with Part 19 of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (NCAR) 2023. This action reflects the NCAA's commitment to enforcing regulations that require airlines operating in Nigeria to respond to and resolve baggage-related complaints promptly.
