NCC Launches Free Data Access for Educational Platforms

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) launched the Zero-Rated Data Access to Educational Platforms and Content initiative on Thursday to enhance access to digital education across Nigeria. This initiative aims to bridge educational inequalities and support long-term economic growth by investing in human capital.

Under the Operator-Sponsored Model, eligible users will receive up to 100 megabytes of free daily data to access designated educational platforms, totaling approximately 36.5GB annually. Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, stated that this initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of building a $1 trillion economy, emphasizing the importance of human capital in economic development.

The initiative is expected to provide learners with an average of two to five hours of study time per day, depending on the learning activity, significantly expanding access to digital learning opportunities.
