Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is reviewing social media posts by Nigerian-born academic Dr. Uju Anya, describing them as “hostile and threatening.” This scrutiny follows intense online backlash, particularly after a user on X (formerly Twitter) shared screenshots of an exchange involving Anya. In a February 17, 2021, post, Anya stated, “Rush Limbaugh finally did something positive in life by dropping dead.

Good Riddance to bad rubbish,” to which she responded belligerently to a user's comment. CMU confirmed that Anya is on voluntary professional leave and not teaching this academic year.

The university expressed concern over her posts, stating they contradict community standards and values. Anya's X account became inaccessible after the backlash, and it remains unclear if she deactivated it.

Elon Musk also commented on the situation, highlighting Anya's position at CMU since 2021. The university has not specified the posts under review or announced any disciplinary actions against Anya.
