NCoS Removes Officers After Inmate's TikTok Livestream

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has taken significant action following a security breach at the Ibara Medium Custodial Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where a death-row inmate livestreamed on TikTok. The Officer-in-Charge and two senior officers were removed from their positions as part of a response to this incident, which has sparked public outrage and highlighted issues regarding the presence of contraband mobile phones in prisons.

Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, described the incident as a serious violation of custodial regulations and initiated a comprehensive investigation to determine how the inmate accessed the mobile phone. Preliminary investigations confirmed the inmate's unlawful possession of the device, which has since been recovered.

The inmate has been transferred to another facility under enhanced security. The NCoS emphasized that the removals were administrative measures aimed at ensuring a transparent investigation, and warned that anyone found responsible would face disciplinary actions.
