NCoS Removes Officials After Inmate's TikTok Breach

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has taken action against the Officer-in-Charge of the Ibara Medium Custodial Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and two other senior officers following a significant security breach. This breach involved death row inmate Elijah Oyebode, who allegedly conducted live sessions on TikTok from prison.

Oyebode was sentenced to death by hanging in 2019 after being convicted by an Osun State High Court for the murder of Rofiat Adebisi, a final-year student at Osun State University. Despite being on death row, he reportedly maintained an active presence on TikTok, achieving Level 20 gifting status, which allowed him to receive monetary gifts during his livestreams.

Investigations revealed that Oyebode unlawfully possessed a mobile phone, which he used to access social media. The device has been recovered for further investigation.

Following these events, Oyebode has been transferred to another custodial facility under enhanced security measures, and the involved officers have been removed from their positions pending an ongoing probe.
