FG Criticizes Telecom Operators for Dialogue Absence

On Thursday, the Federal Government criticized major telecommunications operators for their absence at a national dialogue focused on service delivery, which is crucial for Nigeria's economic growth. The dialogue, organized by the National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN) at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Asokoro, Abuja, featured Mr. Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, as the keynote speaker.

Mr. Dare expressed disappointment over the operators' absence, emphasizing the need for collaboration to address issues affecting millions of subscribers. He described telecommunications as "the new electricity," vital for various sectors including commerce and education.

Mr. Dare proposed a 10-Point Charter for Digital Reform, which includes accelerating broadband expansion, mandating service performance indicators, boosting consumer literacy, protecting critical infrastructure, and institutionalizing stakeholder collaboration, among other initiatives aimed at improving the telecommunications landscape in Nigeria.
