NDC Candidate Accuses Party of Election Manipulation

Rakiya Baba, the candidate for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kaduna State House of Assembly election, has alleged that party leadership is trying to replace her with Yunusa Moham Salisu after she won the primary election on May 29, 2026. Baba secured 225 votes against Salisu's 132 votes, with the results officially compiled and endorsed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, she claims that the fifth ward's results were canceled due to alleged disruptions by thugs. Following her victory, Baba received a call from NDC Kaduna State Chairman Mordecai Ibrahim but was later informed that the primary election results had been altered.

She traveled to Abuja upon request from party stakeholders, where she was instructed to provide nomination forms for Yunusa Tanko's son, despite her victory. Baba expressed disbelief regarding the party's commitment to transparency and democracy, questioning why she was not informed earlier about the nomination being reserved for someone else.
